News Across the Spectrum that May Help Explain the Mess We're In. Or Not.
July 22, 2008
Dear Peacemakers,
I just got back from a week on the road with Voices for Creative Nonviolence and their Witness Against War 2008 walk from Chicago to St Paul. I brought them the Wheels of Justice bus which they are using for a support vehicle- complete with kitchen, toilet, storage, beds, solar electricity for phones and computers, AND it is a 40 foot long billboard for peace. The only snag was after five years of faithful service to the peace movement the transmission went out. With lots of help from folks in Chicago it took us only two days to repair the transmission and re-unite the bus and the walkers up in Kenosha.
I never solicit funds with this newsletter but in this case I am going to make an exception. This bus has been literally been all over the US with the Wheels of Justice bringing eyewitness accounts of war and occupation in Iraq and Palestine to thousands of students from elementary schools to universities. It has supported peace walks here in Wisconsin with WNPJ and across the south with Vets for Peace and Iraq Vets Against the War. It cost us $3,200 to repair so I am asking people to consider making a donation to keep the bus going. Checks can be made out to NPI (Northwoods Peace Initiative) and if you want a tax deduction (please only for amounts greater than $50) checks can be made out to the Progressive Foundation. The mailing address is: Northwoods Peace Initiative, 740 Round Lake Road, Luck, WI, 54853.
After the Peace Walk, the Wheels of Justice Bus Tour is starting its 9th year going to schools across the US in Eau Claire on September 14. You can have the bus come to your town as it heads south through Wisconsin by contacting our tour coordinator Lama Nasser at
. The schedule is unpredictable and is based on who we hear from so get your request in early.
Keep making peace,
Mike and Barb Northwoods Peace Initiative More blustering against Iran Benny Morris, a university professor in Israel, gets way too many column inches in the New York Times calling for Israel to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities. An Israeli radio interview states that the cost of real estate in Iran near the Bushehr nuclear reactor has declined by 50% over fear of bombing. Lobbying for Armageddon For anyone who thinks there won't be a US/Israeli attack against Iran because it would be too destabilizing hold onto your hats. There are people out there who are convinced that we are approaching the END TIMES and they are dong all they can do to bring Jesus back in a mushroom cloud over the Middle East. Scary? You bet but check out these stories.
